COVID-19 Vaccination SBC Campaign – Kanairo Tuko Chonjo (We are fine in Nairobi)

In Nairobi, affectionately called Kanairo, being “chonjo” means being sharp, streetwise, and ahead of the game. Nairobian’s pride themselves on resilience, they hustle, they innovate, and they always find a way to survive. But when COVID-19 cases continued to rise with vaccine uptake still worryingly low, the city’s confidence hid a dangerous truth, many were unprotected, hesitant, or fatigued by the pandemic. Kanairo Tuko Chonjo (We are fine in Nairobi) flipped the script by speaking Nairobi’s own language of pride and belonging. It tied the idea of being “safe” directly to being “chonjo”. To truly be sharp, to truly be “fine,” Nairobian’s needed to get vaccinated, for themselves, for their neighbourhood’s, and for the whole city. For a city that thrives on identity and hustle, Kanairo Tuko Chonjo is making public health personal, local, and aspirational. This campaign is being implemented by Nairobi Metropolitan Services with support from USAID, with creative direction and execution by CBCC.
