Issue Based Digital Communications on Civic and Voter Education and Peace Promotion
The #WekaIssuesMbele campaign was co-designed to address gaps in civic and voter education, peace promotion, and issue-based political engagement ahead of Kenya’s 2022 general elections. Research revealed that citizens were most concerned about the rising cost of living, corruption, unemployment, and fears of marginalisation or post-election violence, while doubting IEBC’s readiness to hold credible elections. The campaign positions itself as a Kenyan-led initiative, supported by USAID, to strengthen accountability, transparency, and peaceful participation. By emphasising issue-based dialogue, it empowers voters to choose leaders with clear agendas to address citizens’ needs, while promoting peacebuilding and constitutional safeguards for free and fair elections. The campaign was funded by USAID and implemented by CBCC in partnership with NCCK Kenya, ACT and ELGIA_Africa.
