In Kenya, it is estimated that more than 40% of women will experience physical and/or sexual gender-based violence (SGBV), including intimate partner violence, over their lifetime. Additionally, over one in five girls will face child marriage or Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). In June 2021, the Government of Kenya made a valiant decision to end Gender-Based Violence (GBV) including sexual violence by 2026.
Scaling up of quantity and empathetic GBV care in Kenya faces numerous challenges especially at community level where there is delay in seeking of professional help and normalization of GBV. A specific area of intervention is to develop a Gender Based Violence sensitization package and Information Education and Communication materials for communities and Community Own Resource Persons (CORPs).
