The Accelerated Varietal Improvement and Seed Delivery of Legumes and Cereals in Africa (AVISA) project was launched in February 2019 to work on the broad agenda of modernizing breeding of seeds and increasing incomes for smallholder farmers in seven countries of Africa. AVISA is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and seeks to consolidate gains made by earlier initiatives that the Foundation funded.
The goal of the project in Tanzania is to stimulate investments into a dynamic, gender and youth responsive groundnut and sorghum seed business and commodity value chains by facilitating various services to groundnuts and sorghum value chain actors. the projects key objectives are: Youth and young mothers making a living from agribusiness, enhanced seed production and delivery for groundnut and sorghum, enhanced business linkages between value chain actors for groundnut and sorghum commodities and overall capacity building and awareness for actors.
